First Look At Amazon and Image Comics’ Invincible Animated Series Reveals Main Cast and Race Swapped Character
A newly released preview of the upcoming Invincible animated series has given fans their first look at the series’ main cast; including a race-swapped version of a character from the comics.
First published in a recent re-release of Invincible #1. The preview was offered by Image Comics for free in support of the 2020 edition of the annual Free Comic Book Day event. It was then shared widely by Twitter user Davino!. Here you get your first glimpse of the newly raced swapped character.
The preview claims that it will closely adhere to the comics, which is based on the Robert Kirkman series. It will follow the adventures of Mark Grayson. Grayson has grown up in the shadow of the greatest superhero in the Universe, Omni-Man; who is none other than his own father Nolan Grayson.
According to the preview the first episode of the animated series, which will be on Amazon’s Prime streaming service, will run an hour long.
The short three-page preview also provides fans with their first look at the on-screen appearances of many members of the main cast. This includes Atom Eve who will be voiced by Gillian Jacobs. Rex Splode will be voiced by Jason Mantzouka. The character of Debbie Grayson will be voiced by Sandra Oh. Omni-Man will be voiced by non-other than J.K. Simmons. Finally, The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun will be voicing Invincible.
It also promises to showcase some of “their greatest villains like Mauler Twins and Doc Seismic!”

However, despite the incredibly accurate adaptation of Kirkman and artist Ryan Ottley’s original work, it appears that one character has gone through a significant change. The change will be seen with the character of Amber Bennet.
For those who don’t remember, Amber is Invincible’s first high school girlfriend. In the comics, she was a white woman, but now in the new animated series, she will be portrayed as a black woman.
Her voice will be supplied by Deadpool 2 actress Zazie Beetz.
This is a very similar change seen with The CW’s adaptation of The Flash when they race-swapped the character of Iris West.
