Inhumans Backlash- Is The Show Ready For IMAX?
A lot of problems have been coming up with Marvel’s Inhumans release.
With the first trailer, there’s been a lot of negative reaction from fans of the comics as well as some who weren’t familiar with the story of the Inhumans. For the former, they felt it didn’t represent the original work as well as it should. For the latter, they felt it wasn’t a good elevator pitch of what the story of the show proposes.
Director Roel Rhine, speaking with Metro News, addressed some of the criticism regarding the trailer.
I was mixed about the first trailer as well. I felt like it didn’t give you the scope, it didn’t give you a lot of secrets or visual effects. I felt it was a little bit too early because the visual effects were not ready – Medusa’s hair was not ready. So I was really nervous about it and would think the fans would not really like it. The trailer was made by other people, so I was really nervous about it when I saw it. So I was like, ‘oh guys maybe we should hold off’, but it was too late because it was already in the open.
However, Rhine thought the second trailer for Marvel’s Inhumans did in some way redeem it in the eyes of fans.
The second trailer really got all the fans back on track and they really like it now and they really want to see it. I was really happy with that second trailer.
Still some, including myself, were on the fence, even with the second trailer.
More Backlash At Television Critics Association!
At a recent Television Critics Association press tour, members of the group viewed the first episode of the series. The group critiqued the show on many points. The most critical point being that the visuals didn’t fit with the IMAX format.
Marvel producers, showrunners, and executives came to the show’s defense. Executive Producer Jeff Loeb had to reply to some talk that the show was not ready for IMAX.
I can tell you that it was written on the material that you were given that the show that you have seen is not the finished product.
Not the best kind of response for something that will be hitting theaters in less than a month. Even showrunner Scott Buck compared the mood to what Ben Affleck was feeling during his infamous interview with BBC Radio 1.
This is when the Sad Affleck meme started roaming the internet.
We all remember the Rotten Tomatoes score Batman V. Superman received and the question that made Sadfleck what it was at the time. Buck was also the showrunner for Marvel’s Iron Fist. This may not bode well for him with two shows not hitting high marks with critics.
Marvel’s Inhumans will premiere in IMAX theaters on September 1st of this year. The show will go into regular ABC programming on September 29th from 8–10 PM. The first two episodes airing back to back on that Friday night.
