John Constantine Actor Matt Ryan Wants to Reprise Role in DC Universe’s Swamp Thing
Actor Matt Ryan, who originally played John Constantine in the NBC series Constantine, appeared at Wizard World Cleveland to pitch the idea of playing Constantine in DC Universe’s upcoming Swamp Thing television show.
Ryan has become the definitive Constantine since taking on the role in the NBC series. He would go on to reprise the character in the Arrowverse appearing in multiple episodes of Arrow as well as Legends of Tomorrow. He would even provide voice work for the character in multiple animated films including [easyazon_link identifier=”B01MYS6GDQ” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Justice League Dark[/easyazon_link] and [easyazon_link identifier=”B07G24T8DC” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Constantine City of Demons[/easyazon_link].
During a panel at Wizard World Cleveland, Ryan indicated he wants to continue to play John Constantine.
Ryan would state, “I’d love to do another shot at a show for Constantine. I think the character deserves it whether it’s me or not.”
At around the 38:00 minute mark, a fan would shout out from the audience, “Swampy’s got his own show coming.”
Ryan would respond, “John Constantine was born on Swamp Thing. Eventually he has to be on Swamp Thing. I just hope that it’s me.”
John Constantine’s first appearance was in [easyazon_link identifier=”B002RITBYO” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Saga of Swamp Thing #37[/easyazon_link] in 1985 from Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben.
Earlier in the panel, Ryan would reveal his dedication to the character and just how influenced he is by the comics:
“I’ve got a little book, a little black book with loads of little quotes from all my favorite quotes from the comics. If something isn’t quite working with the text or something, I’ll literally have a look through and see if I can put in one of the lines from the comics.”
Swamp Thing
