Disney and Lucasfilm just announced that Jon Favreau has been chosen to executive produce and write a brand new Star Wars live-action series for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau is no stranger to Star Wars. He gave voice to the Mandalorian Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He is also expected to lend his voice talents to a character in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars film.

Director Ron Howard confirmed his appearance.

Favreau would go on to give us a photo of his character which appears to be some kind of alien pilot.

Favreau is excited for the opportunity, “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Along with his Star Wars roles, Favreau is no stranger to Disney. He plays one of their oldest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Tony Stark’s trusted friend and bodyguard, Harold “Happy” Hogan.  But not only that he helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe by directing Iron Man and Iron Man 2. He also served as an executive producer on Iron Man and The Avengers. He’s also a producer and director on Disney’s upcoming films Jungle Book 2 and The Lion King. His other directing credits include Cowboys & Aliens, Elf, and Zathura: A Space Adventure.

The new Star Wars series doesn’t have a name and no release date was announced.
