Karl Urban In Talks To Become Judge Dredd Once More!
It’s happening. Karl Urban may just don the helmet of Judge Dredd again.
At the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, Urban revealed he is in talks to star in the upcoming television series Judge Dredd: Mega City One.
“I am in discussion with them about that. I told them if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”
Urban isn’t the only one who would love to see him become Judge Dredd again. Judge Dredd: Mega City One producer Brian Jenkins noted he’s spoken with Urban a number of times about the opportunity.
We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow- Basically, we don’t know at this stage.
Karl Urban appeared as Judge Dredd in the 2012 classic Dredd. In Dredd, Urban’s Judge Dredd teams up with Olivia Thirlby’s Judge Anderson to bring justice to the Peach Trees block of Mega City One. Peach Trees is overrun by the drug-dealing Ma-Ma clan lead by Lena Headey’s Ma-Ma. While Dredd and Anderson work their way to the top of the towering Peach Trees block, Dredd is assessing the rookie Anderson on whether or not she has the stuff to become a Judge.
Judge Dredd was originally created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra in 1977. He’s been a fixture in 2000 AD for more than 40 years. He originally was portrayed by Sylvester Stallone on the big screen in the 1995 movie Judge Dredd.
Karl Urban can next be seen as Skurge the Executioner in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok!
