Fringe’s Kirk Acevedo Joins Arrow Season 6 As Richard Dragon
Arrow Season 6 found their Richard Dragon in Kirk Acevedo.
Deadline reports, Acevedo will play Ricardo Diaz based on the Richard Dragon character in a recurring role for the entirety of Season 6.
Acevedo’s Diaz is described as a “hardened ex-con recently released from prison for crimes he didn’t commit.” He “is bent on taking over Star City’s criminal underworld.” Acevedo’s Diaz appears he will be a physical threat to Green Arrow and the team as well. He’s “a master in hand to hand combat, honed by years of life on the street, [he] has yet to meet a foe he can’t take down.”
Acevedo is no stranger to comic book television shows. He starred in two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Agent Calderon. He also took on the role of Mitch Dolgen in two episodes of The Walking Dead.
Acevedo also starred in the Band of Brothers mini series as Joseph D. Toye in 2001. He also played Charlie Francis on Fringe. Most recently he worked on Kingdom as Dominick Ramos and 12 Monkeys as Jose Ramse.
Acevedo joins Michael Emerson and David Nykl as villains on Arrow Season 6.
It’s possible Arrow will use the character created by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino as inspiration. The name, Ricardo Diaz, definitely suggests they will. In Lemire and Sorrentino’s run on Green Arrow, they introduced Ricardo Diaz Jr. as a pupil of Richard Dragon who later kills his master and assumes his identity. Diaz organizes The Longbow Hunters to destroy the Green Arrow’s life as well as make a bit of money.
Interestingly the character is tied back into the League of Assassins. Diaz trained under Richard Dragon in the League of Assassin’s city ‘Eth Alth’eban. Could we see a resurgent League of Assassins?
Arrow Season 6 debuts on a new day, Thursday, October 12, 2017 on The CW at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
How do you think Arrow will utilize Acevedo’s Richard Dragon? Will they follow closely to the comics or will we see something out of left field?
