Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced Grand Admiral Thrawn in the animated Star Wars Rebels series, recently denied rumors that he will reprise the role in live-action.

Christopher Marc previously indicated that Mikkelsen had been cast to play Thrawn in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

He wrote on Twitter, “Looks like Ahsoka has indeed hired Lars Mikkelsen to play THRAWN in the series and will have his traditional white uniform in the streaming series. Mikkelsen has been rumored for ages and previously voiced the character on Star Wars Rebels.”

However, it appears that Mikkelsen is throwing ice on the rumor that he will be reprising the character in live-action.

Speaking with Britain’s Express, Mikkelsen informed the outlet he had heard about the rumors and a fan campaign to get him to reprise the role, “I am aware of that, yes.”

However, he also noted he hadn’t received an offer to play the role, but was open to it, “Well, I haven’t had the offer. But, yes, sure.”

Lucasfilm hasn’t revealed a lot about the Ahsoka series. A rumor from back in May 2020 from scooper Mikey Sutton claimed that Thrawn would make his live-action debut in a Star Wars series within the next two years.

He claimed at the time, “I’ve held onto this for months now, and I’m tired of waiting for additional details to put this out. Thrawn will make his live-action debut, I am told, possibly in the next two years.”

While Thrawn hasn’t made his live-action debut, the character was referenced in the second season of The Mandalorian when Ahsoka confronts Magistrate Morgan Elseben on Calodan.

It’s revealed following a duel between the two that Ahsoka is seeking Grand Admiral Thrawn and his whereabouts. Ahsoka questions her, “Where is your master? Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn?”

An answer to this question is never provided to viewers. However, it’s possible Elsbeth did indeed provide some information to Ahsoka, and we just were not privy to it.

The questioning of Elsbeth followed up a loose plot line at the end of Star Wars Rebels. The series concluded with Ezra Bridger taking control of a group of Purrgil and using them to jump to hyperspace with Thrawn and his Chimaera Star Destroyer in tow.

Like in The Mandalorian, it’s never revealed where Bridger and Thrawn go.

The show ended with Ahsoka Tano arriving on Lothal and recruiting fellow crew member of the Ghost, Sabine Wren, to find Ezra Bridger.

This final scene of the series was recreated for an official display during D23 back in September 2022.

This display seemingly confirmed a rumor from Daniel RPK who claimed the show would follow Ahsoka Tano as she hunted down Grand Admiral Thrawn in her search for Ezra Bridger.

As reported by Twitter user Starwarsstuff2, the description from the scooper read, “Ahsoka Tano is on the hunt for the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn in the hope it will help her locate the missing Ezra Bridger, the young Jedi that disappeared with Thrawn many years ago.”

What do you make of Mikkelsen claiming he hasn’t been offered the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn? Do you think the character will show up in Ahsoka?
