Report: Michael Dorn Will Not Reprise His Role as Worf in Star Trek: Picard
A new report indicates actor Michael Dorn will not reprise his role as Worf in the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series starring Patrick Stewart.
Newsweek reports, “a representative for Picard producers CBS Television Studios confirmed to Newsweek that Michael Dorn is not appearing in Picard, citing a conversation with the casting team.”
The report comes after a flurry of rumors sparked by Picard cinematographer Philip Lanyon that indicated Dorn could be returning as Worf. (Related: CBS Exec Confirms Star Trek: Picard Will Be “Hybrid” of Discovery and The Next Generation)
Lanyon shared a gift he received that included “a signed slate from the cast of Picard.” He also noted that the slate included signatures from “some of the original The Next Generation cast.”
As you can see above, signatures included Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, and Jeri Ryan. And if you look below, fans believed Dorn’s signature was also included, meaning he might be showing up in the series.

As noted by the Lanyon, the Slate was signed by original cast members of Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as those of Picard, so it wasn’t exactly a confirmation. (Related: Star Trek: The Next Generation Stars Reunite In New Photos!)
To say that the news is disappointing to many Trek fans is an understatement. We’ve known for some time that Michael Dorn has been interested in reprising the role of Worf . In fact, he revealed back in 2012 that he’s written a script for a Worf spin-off. Dorn talked to Trek News about his “Captain Worf” project back in 2012:
“I had come up with the idea because I love the character and I think he’s a character that hasn’t been fully developed and hasn’t been fully realized. Once I started thinking about it, it became obvious to me that I wanted to at least put it out there, which I have, and the response has been pretty amazing. We’ve been contacted by different individuals–I can’t say who and all that–about wanting to come on board and be part of this.”
However, he noted there was a lot of studio politicking going on involving J.J. Abrams at the time.
“Also, there’s all the political stuff going on with the new movies, with J.J. Abrams and Paramount and all that stuff, which I have no clue about and what it all entails, but that’s where it is right now.”
Would you like to see Worf return? If so, do you believe he’d still be a Starfleet officer, or would his ties to the Klingon Empire finally pull him away from the Federation?
