Rumor: Taron Egerton To Play Constantine In Netflix’s Sandman
Almost since it was announced, Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s legendary Vertigo title The Sandman was pegged as its own thing apart from any other active pocket of the DC live-action multiverse.
That assurance took a turn when a rumor sprouted detailing the show would have its own version of John Constantine. Now the show may have found its man to portray the wizarding scoundrel.
Small Screen is reporting Kingsman star Taron Egerton has been cast in the role. Deadline previously confirmed the actor is cast but did not disclose as to which character.

We will have to wait longer to find out for sure. The UK, where Sandman is filming, is under strict COVID lockdown protocols again, hitting pause on the production.
“Taron Egerton is involved in the project and he will be playing John Constantine,” a source told Small Screen. “Filming’s paused right not because of the UK lockdown, but he’ll be filming his scenes for the first season when restrictions are lifted.”

Filming on Sandman started in October according to Small Screen’s report. It’s also noted Egerton is from the same place in the UK, Constantine is in the comics – Merseyside in the northwest of the country, the home of Liverpool.
Egerton would be the first actor to play a DC character from the same neck of the woods as the performer. And, much more interestingly, he already played Constantine once, voicing him in the Audible version of Gaiman’s tome.
Created by Alan Moore, Rick Veitch, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben, John Constantine first appeared in Saga of Swamp Thing #37 and has been linked with Alec Holland’s mucky alter ego ever since.
Keanu Reeves played him in the 2005 movie and rumors continue to swirl Reeves might step back into the role. Matt Ryan portrayed Constantine in every form up until Justice League Dark: Apokolips War last year.
