The CW Releases New Batwoman Teaser: “The Protector of Gotham”

The CW released a brand new teaser for their upcoming Batwoman show describing the character as the “Protector of Gotham.”

Take a look.

The short teaser hit the internet following reports that The CW had picked up Batwoman to series following their pilot season. Deadline reports “the pilot was a frontrunner throughout production and was well received when delivered, with people who have seen it raving about it.”

Actress Ruby Rose will reprise her role as Batwoman in the new series from writer Caroline Dries. Rose debuted in The CW’s Arrowverse in the “Elseworlds” crossover last year.

Batwoman along with The CW picking up Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene means producer Greg Berlanti and his Berlanti Productions will have a total of nine scripted shows airing on The CW next season.

Here’s the official description for the Batwoman show:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (star Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Rose’s casting as Batwoman was controversial when she was first announced to take on the role of Kate Kane. The actress left Twitter back in 2018 indicating she was deleting it in order to focus on her upcoming projects.

However, before she left Twitter, she addressed the controversy of her casting, where many people were complaining she wasn’t Jewish and some even stating she couldn’t play Batwoman because she wasn’t a lesbian.

Rose wrote on Twitter, “Where on earth did “Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman” come from – has to be the funniest most ridiculous ting I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with “she’s too gay” how do y’all flip it like that ? I didn’t change.”

No release date for the show has been announced yet.
