Witcher Season 2 Adds Fan-Favorite Game Of Thrones Actor, Two New Witchers And More – Plus Rumors A Classic Monster!

The Witcher Season 2 looks to outdo its premiere season by casting a fan-favorite Game of Thrones actor, adding two new Witchers, and including a classic monster.

Netflix confirmed a number of early casting reports. One of the official Netflix Twitter accounts reported that Yasen Atour will play Coen, Agnes Bjorn will play Vareena, Paul Bullion will play Lambert, Kristofer Hivju will play Nivellen, Thue Ersted Rasmussen will play Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross will play Lydia, and Mecia Simson will play Francesca.

They didn’t provide any other details than that, but Redanian Intelligence and Deadline, who previously reported on a number of these castings, gave us quite a little bit more to chew on.

The following details will arguably be considered a spoiler, so be forewarned if you don’t want to be spoiled.

Kristofer Hivju as Nigel/Nivellen

Redanian Intelligence reports fan-favorite Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane, will join The Witcher Season 2 as Nigel or Nivellen, a character that appeared in the short story “A Grain of Truth.”

They detail that Nivellen is “described as a charismatic, witty and funny man. He’s from an aristocratic family and has been cursed for the crimes he has committed in the past.”

He’s only expected to appear in the opening episode of Season 2.

Paul Bullion as Lambert

Redanian Intelligence also reports that Peaky Blinders actor Paul Bullion will play the Witcher Lambert.  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt players will know Lambert as one of the last Witchers to be trained inside the walls of Kaer Morhen. He also resents the fact that he was forcibly turned into a Witcher and is jealous of Geralt’s fame.

Lambert is expected to appear in three episodes of Season 2.

Bullion took to Twitter to confirm the announcement:

Yasen Atour as Coën

Coën is a Witcher from Poviss, who played a prominent role in the Blood of Elves novel. He wintered at Kaer Morhen when Ciri was being trained. In the books, he’s described as an odd looking Witcher because he has scars from childhood diseases like chicken pox. It’s believed he either began his Witcher training later in life or he contracted the disease very early.

Coën ends up dying during the Battle of Brenna.

Like Buillion’s Lambert, Atour’s Coën is expected to appear in three episodes of Season 2.

It likely indicates there will be multiple episodes centered on Kaer Morhen, the Witcher keep.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich recently detailed she had been re-reading Blood of Elves indicating it could be a major influence on Season 2.

Carmel Laniado as Violet

Deadline previously reported that Dolittle actress would play a character named Violet.

She’s described as “a young girl whose playful and whimsical nature is a front for a smarter and more sadistic character.”

Redanian Intelligence believes this is an original character created by showrunner Lauren Hissrich and her Witcher team. Violet is expected to appear in at least three episodes of Season 2.

Laniado appeared in Dolittle starring Robert Downey Jr. and FX’s A Christmas Carol.

Mecia Simson as Francesca Findabair

Francesca Findabair is an incredibly powerful Elven sorceress described as “the most beautiful woman in the world.”

She eventually becomes the leader of a faction of Elves associated with King Filavandrel (played by Tom Canton), who only had an episodic role in the first season.

It looks as if Francesca and Filavandrel will be leading an elven army at some point in the season also.

Mecia Simson will play Francesca and was previously on Britain’s Next Top Model.

Agnes Born as Vereena

Agnes Born plays Vereena, who will appear in the first episode as part of the Nivellen storyline. She’ll be involved in a fight sequence.

She is described as “beautiful, fragile, and vulnerable on the outside.” However, “when threatened, she is capable of brutal violence.” Redanian Intelligence notes,  “there’s something animalistic about her.”

Agnes Born previously worked on a TV series called Monster.

Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel

Thue Ersted Rasmussen is Eskel, a witcher who appears in both the books and games, and is a close friend of Geralt’s.

Rasmussen is a Danish actor, known for F9 (2020), and Sunday (2019).

Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia

A sorceress close to the mage Vilgefortz,  Lydia is described as having “dark hair, almond eyes.” She also “bears the scars from an experiment gone wrong.” She will reportedly be the “secretary and assistant to the master” and “carries out a horrible deed.”

Lydia is expected to appear in two episodes, and is played by Aisha Fabienne Ross.

The Leshys (Monster)

Redanian Intelligence reports the ancient forest dwelling monster the Leshy, will appear in an episode of the new season. They detail that an encounter with the monster will have “serious consequences.” It’s unclear who will encounter the monster, but they speculate the likeliest person is Geralt. One of the other witchers could be a possibility as well.

It’s unclear exactly what the creature will look like in the show. The image above shows how it was depicted in The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

These new additions are not the full list of new cast members coming in season two. Redaninan Intelligence details that Vesemir and Dijkstra are notably missing despite appearing on a leaked casting sheet. Also missing is the famed sorceress Philippa Eilhart, (which we hope has not been cut or delayed to a future season).

As expected, a number of Season 1 characters will return via flashbacks and other occurrences in the timeline.

Geralt of course, is front and center. Triss, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskier, and Fringilla will be heavy players in the next season.

Appearances will also be made by Renfri, Stregebor, Queen Calanthe, Duny and Pavetta, Eist, Tissaia, Cahir, Istredd, and Vilgefortz.

Rumor has it that Renfri will have a fair amount of screen time, given the fact that she became a fan favorite in season one.

We’ll have to see just who returns and where they’ll fit in the story, but this news should definitely pique the interest of Witcher fans.

Will Season 2 be even better than the first? Let us know in the comment section.
