The God of War live-action adaptation is both highly anticipated and highly mocked. Fans are trying to keep an open mind while still hoping for something just as good as the game. And unfortunately, there’s been a big setback as God of War recasts Kratos after Ryan Hurst sustains an injury to his bicep during filming.

According to TMZ, Ryan Hurst tore his bicep, putting the production on hold. But now, it’s been revealed that the tear is so bad that they’re going to be forced to recast the iconic lead. Reports say that the injury was so bad that it’s leading to surgery. Apparently, production was hoping that they’d have him back on set mid-August, but the recovery time will be too long.

Because of this, it seems like things may be pushed back to 2027.

The news is incredibly unfortunate, as Ryan Hurst has been working hard on the adaptation. According to reports, Hurst put on 40 pounds of muscle in preparation for the role. And while the internet has severely bashed the first look images that were posted on social media at the beginning of the year, Hurst still seemed to be an amazing choice for our beloved God of War character.

As of right now, there has been no official announcement on who will replace Kratos.

Currently, Ed Skrein stars as Badlur, Callum Vinson will play Atreus, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.
