DC Brings In Heavy Hitter For Upcoming Batgirl Movie!

DC Comics and Warner Bros. expand their list of upcoming movies with a brand new Batgirl movie and they’ve already got a director. None other than former Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon will helm the project according to a report from Variety.

Variety reports that Joss Whedon, Godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is close to inking a deal to write, direct, and produce an upcoming Batgirl movie as part of Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe.

Batgirl also known as Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon and first appeared in 1967 in “[easyazon_link identifier=”B00J5241D6″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl[/easyazon_link]” by Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.

Barbara played an integral role in Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s [easyazon_link identifier=”1401216676″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Killing Joke[/easyazon_link] where Barbara suffered immense trauma at the hands of the Joker that saw her confined to a wheel chair. Following the events of the Killing Joke, she embraced her intellect and took on the role of the Oracle, a tech wizard and information guru who plays a critical role in keeping Gotham safe. Recently in the comics, Barbara Gordon stepped out of her wheel chair and once again donned the cape of Batgirl.

This new project will be overseen by Tomy Emmerich, the president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group. He will be joined by Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.

If the deal is finalized this will be his first movie since Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though it did well at the box office, it was critically panned.

So what do you think, are you excited to see Barabra Gordon come to life? Do you see Whedon’s involvement as a positive development for DC? Sound off in the comments below!
