Star Wars Episode IX Just Got A New Writer!
It’s official now, according to an exclusive report from the Hollywood Reporter Star Wars Episode IX officially has a new writer.
Jack Thorne, who is also working on a movie adaptation of The Sandman, will be the new writer for Star Wars Episode IX.
Thorne has an interesting resume as a writer. He created and co-created quite a few British television shows. They include The Cast-Offs, The Fades, National Treasure, and The Last Panthers. To some, it may not seem that he has the science fiction or space opera experience for Star Wars. However, his resume also includes Philip K. Dick’s Electric Sheep and His Dark Materials which showcase his science fiction chops.
Director Colin Trevorrow and writing partner Derek Connolly have already been working on a script. A few sources have said that it seems that it was time for another writer to come in and flesh out some details. It is not known how far the rewrites will go, and if it could affect the expected May 2019 release.
With this change, the studio wants to get moving. Which is understandable. It looks like they are trying to have everything in place ready to go since the next Star Wars film is being released this December. Before Star Wars: The Last Jedi will even leave theaters, Lucasfilm plans to begin production right away. They expect to begin around January 2018.
Star Wars Episode IX has a May 2019 release date, the time is right to get all their ducks in a row.
It’s expected that Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) will be in the ninth episode. But if we learned anything from Star Wars: The Force Awakens shocker, no major character is safe.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to open to eager fans on December 15, 2018. The Last Jedi was written and directed by Rian Johnson.
