A new report suggests Kree warrior Mar-Vell will appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson.

Along with the report of Mar-Vell showing up in the movie, it also indicated the Psyche-Magnitron machine would be used.

It is not clear how big of a role Mar-Vell will play in the movie, if any at all. Marvel Studios is still months away from principal photography and its quite possible they may make a number of script changes before filming begins.

One thing Marvel has confirmed is that the movie will be set amidst the Kree-Skrull war in the 1990s. The Skrulls will also be the main villains in the film.

If the rumors of Mar-Vell and the Psyche-Magnitron appearing are true it could reference that Marvel will adopt Carol Danvers’ original origin story.

Danvers was an ace fight pilot and former officer in the U.S. Air Force as well as a CIA agent before she became the head of security at NASA headquarters in Cape Canaveral. While at NASA, her life was saved by undercover Kree super-agent Mar-Vell. He was disguised as Dr. Phillip Lawson.

Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers soon began a relationship. Upon discovering their relationship, Kree Commander Yon-Rogg kidnaps Carol in order to bait Mar-Vell into a trap. When Mar-Vell attempts to rescue Carol, Yon-Rogg deploys the Psyche-Magnitron, a weapon that could turn thoughts into reality, in an attempt to defeat Mar-Vell. However, the Psyche-Magnitron explodes. Mar-Vell attempting to shield Carol from the device’s radiation sees his own genetic template absorbed by Carol. Carol’s thoughts, wishing to stand as an equal next to Mar-Vell, allowed her DNA to become a perfect systhesis between Kree and human genes. Thus was born the superhero Ms. Marvel.

Captain Marvel is not expected to hit theaters until 2019. However, there are rumors the character will be involved in Avengers: Infinity War.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film will star Brie Larson as well as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury
