Love/Hate Actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor Will Be Ebony Maw In Avengers: Infinity War

Irish actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor known for his role as Nidge in Love/Hate confirmed his role in Avengers: Infinity War as Ebony Maw, a member of Thanos’ Black Order.

Vaughan-Lawlor spoke to RTE Radio 1’s Second Captains:

I am. But it’s like I’m one of those ones where you go into a sentence to say something about it and hope you have a job at the end of the sentence. You sign so many documents and waivers and people ask you about it and you have to give the generic and boring ‘I can’t say too much about it’. But I am doing it and it’s really amazing and an amazing thing to be part of.

He added:

With social media there’s so much potential for leaks so (Marvel) understandably want to micro-manage things and make sure it goes out when they are ready. They didn’t know me so when I went over they were meeting me for the first time.

He then went on to say he’s not letting his casting in Avengers: Infinity War inflate his ego:

Any time you think you’ve in any way ‘arrived’ you need to ask yourself questions about your art and what you perceive yourself to be. You’ve got to focus on your work and let the rest take care of itself.

Rumors had been swirling that Tom Vaughan-Lawlor was to play the mind-controlling Ebony Maw when a leaked photo showed Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange grappling with an actor in a CGI suit.

As you can see in the photo, it appears Vaughan-Lawlor’s Ebony Maw is attempting to steal the Eye of Agamotto. It’s been highly rumored that the Eye of Agamotto is the Time Stone, one of six stones used to power the Infinity Gauntlet. In the comics, the stones were originally called the Soul Gems before Thanos reveals they are called the Infinity Gems. They power the Infinity Gauntlet giving Thanos near omnipotence.

No other Black Order members have currently been revealed. In the comics, the Black Order consisted of Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Supergiant, and Black Dwarf.
