Nicole Kidman Lets Slip A Spoiler About Her Role As Atlanna In Aquaman

Nicole Kidman let slip some interesting details about her upcoming role as Atlanna in Aquaman. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting her upcoming film The Killing of a Scared Deer, Nicole Kidman revealed some juicy details that could give us some details about the movie’s plot.

“I got to be a queen. I got to wear a crown. I got to lie on a rock with my hair strewn and blood. I kinda liked it.”

It’s no surprise Nicole Kidman would be wearing a crown and would be a queen. We knew she would be playing Queen Atlanna in the forthcoming Aquaman movie. However, when Kidman said she would lie on a rock with her hair strewn and blood could point to a few plot points. But before we get to that let me add some context.

According to casting call site Acting-Audtions.org the synopsis of the film is as follows:

Aquaman will centre on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.

I believe Kidman’s quote combined with this leaked casting synopsis is strongly pointing towards an Atlantis civil war which sees Aquaman (Arthur Curry) stepping forward to rule. His goal in the film would be to reunite a divided Atlantis.

The screen play by Will Beall could also borrow some elements from the comic book world. In the comics, Queen Atlanna faked her own death in order to escape the world of Atlantis. I could see the film makers taking a bit of this motivation and combining it with a potential Atlantean civil war. Her death or fake death might even spark the civil war.

None of this will be confirmed until December 2018 when Aquaman premieres in Imax and theaters across the globe.
