WWE Superstar and rising Hollywood actor John Cena has one of the more interesting Instagram accounts out there. Rather than use Instagram to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at his life like most celebrities do, Cena uses his Instagram to share seemingly random, out-of-context images. His profile’s “bio” even tells us so: “Welcome to my Instagram. These images will be posted without explanation, for your interpretation. Enjoy.”

For example, here’s a typical Cena Instagram post:

But sometimes, Cena posts images that aren’t so much random references and jokes as they are clues. And recently, Cena posted a few images that some think could indicate he’s teasing a role as Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s forthcoming Watchmen series.

On Nov. 19, Cena posted an image of the Comedian’s badge, which is one of the most iconic and recognizable images from the Watchmen comic by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Then on Nov. 26, Cena posted an image of Dr. Manhattan.

So, could Cena be Dr. Manhattan? The fan reaction has been mixed, but Cena has proven to have some legitimate acting chops in movies like Trainwreck, Sisters, and Daddy’s Home 2. Then again, those are all comedies – and showrunner Damon Lindelof has said that he wants Watchmen to fulfill a need for “dangerous shows.”

But another nod in Cena’s favor is that HBO isn’t averse to casting wrestlers: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the star and executive producer of HBO’s Ballers. Additionally, Cena is slowly but surely making his exit from WWE and transitioning into becoming a full-time Hollywood star, with starring roles in the upcoming animated film Ferdinand and the Transformers Bumblebee spin-off. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he could take on a TV show in the future.

So what does all this mean? Truth be told, it’s simply too early to tell. But it’s fun to speculate in the meantime.
