20th Century Fox has been keeping a lot of their details close to the chest for their upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film. However, we just got our first look at Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s December issue.
The image is extremely powerful. Turner’s trademark red hair becomes whipping flames and her skin begins to crack open revealing what almost appears to be molten Earth underneath.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to take place in 1992, 10 years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. The X-Men team will consist of Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
Director Simon Kinberg revealed the team will be taking on much more dangerous missions at the behest of team leader Charles Xavier.
Pride is starting to get the better of him, and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions.
On one of those dangerous missions, Xavier is expected to send the team into space where they are hit by a solar flare. The flare awakens the Phoenix entity residing within Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey.
Kinberg also co-wrote the ill conceived X-Men: The Last Stand which also featured the Phoenix entity as it took control of Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey. He revealed he had to direct this movie.
[The film] was so clear in my head, emotionally and visually, that it would have killed me to hand this to somebody else to direct.
While X-Men: The Last Stand might have been a misstep, Kinberg saw success as the producer of X-Men: First Class, the writer and producer of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and to a lesser extent the co-writer and producer of X-Men: Apocalypse. He also produced the wildly successful Deadpool film and Logan.
Not only is Kinberg directing this film, but he also wrote the screenplay.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
