WATCH: New Black Panther Trailer

Black Panther

Black Panther’s debut is just over a month away and Marvel Studios just dropped the latest trailer for the upcoming film.

Take a look:

While there is plenty of new footage, it appears to all be short clips from previously seen footage. For example, we now see Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger placing the bomb on the wall that explodes to free Andy Serkis’ Klaw. I actually think this is a brilliant tactic. It doesn’t give too much away and keeps our interest piqued for the film.

Maybe the most interesting part of the trailer was a brief shot right around the one minute mark. It shows a number of women who look to be surrounded and in imminent danger. You can see one woman in the foreground clutching a baby in her arms. While Letitia Wright’s Shuri looks like a chained dog ready to be released to tear into whoever is threatening them.

Maybe the highlight of the trailer is the friendship Black Panther has with his fellow Wakandans that aren’t threatening to take the throne. I loved hearing Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia tease T’Challa, “You show off!” That friendship seems to be at the heart of the movie and if it is – I expect great things!

Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger is another standout. The scene with him walking away from the fire is just gorgeous and captures what I can only imagine is the inner fire and broiling rage burning up inside him that he plans to unleash against T’Challa and Wakanda. But I also liked how they added in Killmonger’s intelligence. We’d seen his physical prowess in previous trailers, but in this one the dialogue definitely appears to show he outsmarts him too by obtaining the Black Panther technology.

The showdown between these two is sure to be EPIC!

Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler. The film stars Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Letitia Wright as Shuri and Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia.

Black Panther comes to theaters on February 16, 2017. Tickets are available now.
