Latest Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer Hints at Brand New Dinosaur

There’s a New King in Town
Just when you thought the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the King of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World kingdoms, a new contender arrives on the scene. Jurassic World was a huge success. It might not be a fantastic sequel to the original film, but it was good enough to gross $1.5 billion worldwide. The film’s director, Colin Trevorrow, almost went on to direct Star Wars: Episode IX before leaving the project over those infamous “creative differences.” Though he isn’t directing, Trevorrow is still very much a part of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This time J.A. Bayona is directing the film and the sequel to the sequel is already looking great.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the glorious T-Rex are all back in top-shape. But there’s a new development lurking at the corners of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The brand new dinosaur.
B.D. Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu was clearly up to something in Jurassic World. The Indominus Rex was his hybrid, mutated creation that wreaked unstoppable havoc on the theme park. But as anyone who watched the film knows, Wong escaped with his research. Clearly, he’s working with the government or some corporation on the creation of a hideous monstrosity unlike anything the world has ever seen. Except for all the other dinosaurs seen in the Jurassic World world.
The only surprise could come from just what Wu and company have in store for the world. Luckily, a few shots from the latest trailer for J.A. Bayona’s film give us a hint of what this creature will look like.
The Horror, the Horror
It would appear as though Toby Hooper’s character will be playing a scientist in the film. As he seems to introduce the contestant behind door #3: the new dinosaur.
The shot is reminiscent of Superman’s first caped appearance in Man of Steel. A bright light shining over what will likely be introduced as a “saving grace.” Remember, this is a government sanctioned and created creature. This thing will be a killer, through and through.
The creature then appears in front of Pratt. Clearly, they’re no longer on Isla Nublar. There’s a chance that this dinosaur never even steps foot on the island. If it’s a Government creation, this could be the first dinosaur in the Jurassic Park Universe to not be created on Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna.
Another tease of the creature’s massive jaws, as well as a reference to a shot from the original film. The creatures lower jaw seems to be protruding further then its upper jaw. Which would be a unique feature to a Jurassic film dinosaur. Considering this creature was likely designed to take down armies it should have plenty of secrets to reveal on June 22nd.
A Little More Compact
It looks like, for the first time ever, a Jurassic Park sequel won’t try to introduce a bigger dinosaur. If the shots from the trailer are any indication, this new dinosaur will be more more like the Velociraptor. Blue, one of the Raptors that Pratt’s character raised and trained, has already been a major part of all the trailers for the upcoming film. Not only that, the series has always gone out of its way to demonstrate how effective Raptors were at hunting, communicating, killing, and just about everything in between.
If you remember the moment before Vincent D’Onofrio’s Commander Victor Hoskins was killed there was a shot of a brand new dinosaur in development.
It’s possible this new dinosaur is called the “Indorapter.” The name was trademarked in 2017 and was referenced in a deleted tweet by executive producer Frank Marshall.
It makes sense that someone would finally decide to take characteristics from something other than the T-Rex. Considering the horror tones that each of these trailers for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has had, it’s likely that this new dinosaur is going to play a big part in the fun. But this isn’t the first time the Jurassic-Universe first created by Steven Spielberg dabbled in mutation.
Joe Johnston was the director of Jurassic Park 3, which many still regard as the best sequel to the original film. It doesn’t hurt that it’s the only sequel that has Sam Neill. Initially, they were going to follow that up with Jurassic Park 4. That film would was supposed to have machine-gun and soldier-carrying dinosaurs controlled by the government. For better or worse, audiences were not treated to such a film.
Amblin Entertainment, Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have quite a franchise on their hands. While many have tried to replicate the success of Jurassic Park, only the recent sequel Jurassic World has managed to cover the spread. With a horrific new dinosaur at their control, Universal Pictures, and J.A. Bayona could help Fallen Kingdom become the new apex predator.
