Just a few days ago, it was revealed that Patty Jenkins wanted Kristen Wiig for the role of Cheetah. There are more than a few reasons why she’d be perfect for the job. The story got a lot of traction. Some graphic designers even offered their interpretation of what the character might look like. While it still might seem odd for the comedic actress to become a supervillain action star, she’s an undeniably fantastic artist. One who deserves more roles. Now, she has one.

Patty Jenkins took to Twitter this morning to give one of the most exciting casting announcements in recent memory!

First of all, how amazing does Wiig look in that dress? The film is obviously going to be another period piece. Many believe the story will somehow revolve around the 80’s and the Cold War. But could Jenkins’ photo imply the film has more of a late 60’s, early 70’s vibe? That’s certainly the case with Wiig’s outfit.

However, that might be reading a little too much into the image. It’s more likely that Jenkins just chose an incredible image of Wiig when she decided to make the announcement. Cheetah’s most recent origin is a scientist who becomes imbued with the powers of a Cat-God. There’s certainly something feline about the picture, not to mention it’s one of the most beautiful pictures of Kristen Wiig ever. A good sign of things to come.
