The Next Most Ambitious Cross-Over Ever

Epic Games has found a lot of success with Fortnite: Battle Royale. The free-to-play game is available on multiple platforms and gaming systems for free. That’s right, while there’s a core game, the multiplayer mode taking the world by storm is completely free. There are in-game purchases, of course. It makes sense that as the game becomes more successful, there’s more of a chance to cross-promote with other markets. Well, right now Thanos happens to be ruling the Cinematic world.  Avengers: Infinity War is destroying records left and right. Well now, Thanos wants to take over yet another Universe.

Today, Epic Games announced players will now be able to become Thanos in Fortnite. The Mad Titan has his Infinity Gauntlet, and all of the powers that comes with it. The developer hasn’t specified what those could be yet. This is one of the most powerful weapons ever created, after all.

Will players really be able to alter time and space? Will they be able to snap players out of existence? Maybe. Epic’s announcement on Twitter was sparsely detailed.

Not much to go on. But needless to say, Thanos looks great. The developers perfectly captured the character’s look and costume. With Thanos’ introduction to Fortnite, it makes one hopeful some Marvel-themed skins are in order. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Thanos will be the extent of this cross-over. But the makers of the game, and Avengers: Infinity War, had some wonderful things to say about the event.

The Most Powerful Being in the Universe

While speaking with Entertainment Weeklythe Russo Brothers revealed their love of the game, which inevitably led to conversations with the Creative Director at Epic Games, Donald Mustard, according to Joe Russo.

“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of AvengersFortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

As you can expect, Mustard was very intrigued by the prospect.

“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

Sounds like everyone is a fan of everyone else. That’s exactly how great art is made, by collaboration and appreciation of the countless hours and immeasurable effort it takes to put a game or film together.

The world of Fortnite: Battle Royale is incredibly competitive and innovative. Players are able to create and build just as much as they can shoot and destroy. If the developers were just as creative in bringing Thanos into the game, expect the gameplay to be amazing. The Infinity Gauntlet is the perfect tool to play with in the sandbox of Fortnite: Battle Royale.
