Paramount Pictures released a brand new teaser trailer for Bumblebee that features a number of Transformers including Optimus Prime. This teaser debuts just a day before they plan to release their next full trailer.

Take a look at the new teaser:

The upcoming Bumblebee film will take place in the 1980s  and is set before the previous Transformers film.

Here’s the official description:

“On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

Bumblebee will star Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon, and Stephen Schneider. The film is directed by Travis Knight.

The success of the film could determine the fate of the Transformers franchise moving forward.

The last Transformers movie, Transformers: The Last KnightThe film brought in over $605 million worldwide fared poorly compared to other entries in the franchise. on a $217 million production budget, meaning it was more than likely profitable for Paramount given a good rule of thumb is a film needs to double its production budget to have a good return. In contrast the original Transformers film brought in over $709 million and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen brought in over $836 million.

Bumblebee will have some stiff competition when it comes out around Christmas. It will be competing with Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, Warner Bros. Aquaman, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mortal Engines, and even Alita: Battle Angel.

Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
