Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Working Title Revealed

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 working title has been revealed. According to an update in Production Weekly the film’s working title is Hot Christmas.

The fact that the film has a working title is surprising news since Dave Bautista informed the world that the film was indefinitely on hold after Disney fired director James Gunn for a number of Tweets involving pedophilia and child rape.

It’s unclear if the working title is a reference to anything. Sometimes Marvel does reference the comic books and other times they are nonsensical in order to keep the press out of the loop. It’s possible Hot Christmas might actually be a reference to when the film would have gone into production if Gunn wasn’t fired. Rumors indicated the film was expected to go into production sometime this Fall or Winter.

While the most recent reports from Bautista indicate the film is indefinitely on hold, James Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn, who plays the Ravager Kraglin, indicated Disney still plans to use James Gunn’s script.

While speaking with Tulsa World, Sean Gunn stated:

“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with ‘Guardians 3.’ I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”

He would add:

“Obviously, I think it’s a tricky proposition for them to find another director to step in — and also the scheduling of a lot of other actors who are incredibly busy can’t be easy. But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.’”

That’s definitely confirmation that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is happening, it’s just unclear when it will be happening and who will be helming it. One thing is clear it looks like they will be using James Gunn’s script.

It’s possible that Disney might be moving forward with Guardians Vol. 3 quicker than expected after Gunn was fired. With the reveal of a working title, it’s possible they are mobilizing their production crew to get started. It would make sense given Avengers 4 has now finished filming and some of the stars who appear in Guardians would have been busy working on the Avengers 4 reshoots.

Do you think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could go into production with the reveal of the working title? What do you make about Disney continuing to use James Gunn’s script?
