Tom Welling Teases The Possibility of Returning to Superheroes!

Years after hanging his cape up, as the alien from a small Kansas town, Tom Welling looks to be ready to return to the superhero genre on the network that gave him his first starring role. That is if the network is ready to take that step as well.

This came out during an event for Fox’s Fall TV lineup which includes Lucifer, where Welling currently is cast as a recurring guest star for the upcoming season.

During the party, Nuke The Fridge spoke with Welling of the possibility of joining The Flash:

I am willing to go on The Flash and I have a few ideas on how it can happen if the network asks me. In fact, I think I can make it happen.

Wow, that’s a pretty big nod towards the CW. Since Welling is willing to play ball it makes me wonder who he could play in The Flash. Former early 90s Flash star John Wesley Shipp was brought on to play Berry’s father when the series started. He also plays Barry’s mentor and speedster ally Jay Garrick. I would imagine they bring Tom back in a way that would give him a new character while giving a nod to his former role as Superman.

There is also the possibility of him reprising his role as Superman. It wouldn’t be the first time that the show has gone universe hopping. If that’s the route taken it could provide flexibility since we know Superman man exists at least on Earth-38. It’s possible he might come from another Earth than Earth-1 where The Flash and Arrow primarily are set in. This move would also allow the writers a bit of wiggle room on which DC characters can be brought in. Since all The CW DC shows are connected, I could see this as an opportunity to further expand the size of the available hero list.

That’s is if Warner Bros. doesn’t slap down any ideas that might be brought up. Which we saw with Arrow when Harley Quinn was teased early in the series.

Take the poll, do you want to see Tom Welling come back as Superman? Or should he play another character?
