Karl Urban has been a busy man in Hollywood these past few years. He’s become a staple to the Star Trek franchise starring as Doctor Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy. He also just recently starred in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok as Skurge. But maybe his best role was as Judge Dredd in the 2012 Dredd film.

He was so good in that role many have clamored for a sequel or at least want him to reprise the role of Judge Dredd. With the news of a Judge Dredd TV series in development, the hope to see him back as Judge Dredd was renewed.

ComicBook.com spoke to Urban about the possibility of reprising his role as Judge Dredd and joining the television series.

“No new news on that front. My understanding of where they are in the process is that they are in development, and they are writing and developing a sort of 10-episode based television series called Mega-City One. And I told them, if they write some great material for Dredd, and give him a real purpose and a function, that I would love to come back and be a part of it. So, let’s see what they do.”

Urban previously hinted at the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention last year that he would love to be part of the project.

“I am in discussion with them about that. I told them if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”

And he’s not the only one interested Judge Dredd: Mega City One producer Brian Jenkins has also expressed interest in bringing Urban on board.

“We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow- Basically, we don’t know at this stage.”

Here’s to hoping the two can work together and get everything sorted out so we can see Karl Urban become Judge Dredd once again. And what we’ve seen from concept art the show looks like it will be pretty freaking awesome.

You can catch Karl Urban in his most recent film Bent which opens this weekend.
