Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige Confirms Eternals Movie
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is going to have one heck of a week. First he’s got the big premiere for Avengers: Infinity War and then he’s going to see just how much money the big movie is going to rake in on its opening weekend. He’s also working on Avengers 4, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the Spider-Man sequel. However, he’s still planning for the future as well. Feige just confirmed Marvel Studios is working on an Eternals movie.
Feige confirmed the Eternals movie while speaking with TheWrap.
“Eternals is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate. We have started working on what are the films post-phase 3.”
However, TheWrap would go on to report that several insiders told them “multiple screenwriters have taken meetings and have been asked to come up with a story that focuses on the female Eternal known as Sersi (no, not the character on “Game of Thrones”).”
Marvel’s Eternals were created by legendary comic book creator Jack Kirby all the way back in The Eternals #1 in 1976. The Eternals were a creation of Marvel’s Celestials. The Celestials performed genetic experiments on early humanity creating the long-lived Eternals and their unstable and monstrous Deviants. The Eternals would work to protect Earth and sometimes mix with their human cousins.
Interestingly enough the Eternals are directly connected to Thanos and possibly Avengers: Infinity War. In the comics, the Eternals gain the power to manipulate cosmic energy, but with the ability to gain cosmic energy their leader, Kronos is left in an immaterial state. The Eternals merge into the Uni-Mind to determine which of Kronos’ two sons will lead them. Zuras is chosen as the leader. His brother A’lars decides to leave Earth and build a colony on Titan. While on Titan, A’lars would fall in love with Sui-San and the two would have a son named Thanos.
It seems the upcoming Eternals movie will focus on Sersi. If you couldn’t guess by her name, in the Marvel history of the world she inspired the Greek goddess Circe. She’s also interacted with Merlin, King Arthur Pendragon, Gilgamesh, and Nero of Rome.
Sersi would differ from most of the Eternals as she actually ventured out into the world and lived among humanity. In fact, she would join the Avengers at the behest of Captain America and would even get involved in the Kree-Shi’ar War when she and a number of other Avengers attempted to murder the Kree Leader, the Supreme Intelligence. The Kree-Skrull War is expected to play prominently in Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel movie, it wouldn’t surprise me if they also included pieces from the Kree-Shi’ar War.
Sersi’s power set is formidable. She can lift 20 tons with ease and she has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy which grants her virtual immortality and invulnerability. She can also project cosmic energy from her hands and eyes. However, her greatest strength is her ability to psionically rearrange molecular structures of objects. She can manipulate matter on the subatomic level.
