Earlier today,a report surfaced about the death of The Crow remake. It appears that report has now been confirmed thanks to an Instagram post by Jason Momoa.

Jason Momoa issued some strong words on Instagram while also showing off a hint of what he would look like as The Crow. He also shared what looks to be a piece of concept art for the now dead film.

Momoa would write:

“I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right. Love u Corin aloha j”

Reading his post you can feel his disappointment. It feels a lot like Ryan Reynolds’ struggles to bring Deadpool to the big screen before the film became a smash hit back in February of 2016. Jason Momoa laments eight years of work to bring the classic graphic novel back to theaters.

Several failed sequels and a forgettable television show make up the majority of the history for the franchise outside of the comics.

Maybe the most interesting part of Momoa’s post is that it seemingly confirms the earlier report which indicated there was issues with Samuel Hadida and Sony Pictures. Hadida’s Davis Films currently controls the film rights to The Crow. Momoa specifically says “This film needs to be set free.” That seems to indicate that Hadida may have been trying to exercise his own creative control over the project.

It wasn’t that long ago when Director Corin Hardy and Jason Momoa were both on social media boasting about their excitement about the project.

With Jason’s Instagram post today, I believe we can say for certain, at least for now, the project is six feet under. Though some fans of the Brandon Lee classic are happy. I’m sure some others are a bit disappointed.

I know a few people who honestly didn’t feel that a remake was in order. But as passionate as Jason Momoa is, he could have made it into something great.
