Marvel Comics will be celebrating the return of Conan the Barbarian to the publisher with 20 different variant covers for a number of their titles throughout the months of December and January. This promotion will be in the same vein as the recent Cosmic Ghost Rider variant cover takeover as well as the Venomized covers.
Marvel hasn’t released a full list of the variant covers, but they did reveal the first five variant covers from artists Butch Guice, Inhyuk Lee, Mark Bagley, Gerald Parel, and Mike McKone.
Take a look at these gorgeous covers.
Amazing Spider-Man #12
Mark Bagley provides the variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #12 which goes on sale on December 19, 2018.
Amazing Spider-Man #12 will see J. Jonah Jameson find himself in deep trouble by a mysterious attacker while Spider-Man will attempt to learn more about the mysterious bandaged figure who’s circling him.
Captain America #6
Butch Guice provides the variant cover for Captain America #6 which goes on sale on December 19, 2018.
Captain America #6 will feature the conclusion of the Winter in America arc that will “send the Star-Spangled Avenger’s life into a sudden dramatic tailspin.”
Fantastic Four #5
Gerald Parel provides the variant cover for Fantastic Four #5 which goes on sale on December 26, 2018.
Fantastic Four #5 will feature the wedding between The Thing and Alicia. Marvel promises this wedding will happen and it’s not a dream or a hoax. It will also feature a story about Ben and Alicia’s courtship as well as a bachelor party that only Johnny Storm could throw.
Immortal Hulk #10
Inhyuk Lee provides the variant cover for Immortal Hulk #10 which goes on sale on December 5, 2018.
Immortal Hulk #10 will see Shadow Base get infiltrated and the One Below All walk upon Earth. Hulk will finally return to the place of his birth and be the only thing standing between the world of the living and the Green Door.
Mike McKone provides the variant cover for Avengers #13 which goes on sale on January 23, 2018.
Avengers #13 will feature the Iron Fist of 1,000,000 BC, the very first person to harness the power of the heart of the dragon Shou-Lao.
Conan the Barbarian #1 goes on sale on January 2, 2018. It will be written by Jason Aaron with art by Mahmud Asrar.
Here’s the official solicitation:
“BY CROM, THE GREATEST SWORD-AND-SORCERY HERO RETURNS TO MARVEL!
From an age undreamed…hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet…
Robert E. Howard’s creation returns to comics, in an epic tale as only MARVEL could bring you! Conan’s travels have brought him to the far reaches of the unkown, from his birthplace in Cimmeria to the kingdom of Aquilonia and all in between. As his fighting prowess allows him to carve his way through life, so too does it attract the forces of death!
The all-new ages-spanning saga begins here, by writer Jason Aaron (THE MIGHTY THOR, STAR WARS) and artist Mahmud Asrar (UNCANNY X-MEN, ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT AVENGERS), as Conan’s destiny is forever changed!”
What do you make of these variant covers? Do you plan on picking any of them up? I’m definitely digging Butch Guice’s Captain America variant!
