Update: Jason Momoa Sets the Record Straight About Henry Cavill’s Status as Superman

We have an update on the rumors that Henry Cavill is leaving the role of Superman and Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe, and it’s good news for those who want Cavill to stick around.

Yet again, it’s up to Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, to clear the air. Momoa previously spoke to The Huffington Post, saying if Cavill was walking away it probably had something to do with burnout and wanting to try other things. Since then, he and Cavill talked and the story can be set straight.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for Aquaman, Momoa said emphatically,

“I just talked to Henry…He’s absolutely not [leaving the role]. He loves the character. He’s not. 100 percent. No, it’s absolutely not.”

You don’t get much clearer than that.

Speculation sprouted in September that Cavill was exiting Warner Bros. and DC after the announcement came Superman would not cameo in Shazam!. Further cementing the hubbub were the fluctuating plans for the DCEU post-Justice League. Snyder is gone and Ben Affleck could be out as Batman. The feeling of many, including Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane, was the whole thing was getting rebooted.

Considering how glowing Momoa was talking about their onset relationship filming [easyazon_link identifier=”B077H3VB76″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Justice League[/easyazon_link], it is not a surprise he and Cavill would chat about his future as Superman in the DCEU on the eve of Aquaman’s big debut, which has been pivotal for Momoa even before the opening.

Aquaman will be part of a new direction for DC at the movies as sequels are already being discussed. However Supes will figure in, Cavill wants to be back when the time is right; that can be confirmed. As for when the Man of Steel will get another solo film, that is anybody’s guess.

Aquaman is currently making waves in China and will finally open everywhere next Friday.
