Marvel and Netflix Announce Punisher Season 2 Release Date and Sneak Peek
Marvel and Netflix teased the release date for the second season of the Punisher starring Jon Bernthal with a short video clip.
The clip seen below sees what appears to be Frank Castle torching a Presidential pardon meaning it looks like he will be getting back to work by taking the law into his own hands and dishing out punishment as he sees fit.

While the clip doesn’t specifically give a specific date, the Twitter account for Netflix’s Middle East and North Africa region revealed in a now deleted tweet that Marvel’s The Punisher Season Two would debut on the streaming giant on January 18, 2019. It’s more than likely whoever was supposed to be managing that Twitter account let the cat out of the bag a little early. It’s more than likely another official confirmation will be made when Netflix and Marvel release the full trailer for Punisher Season 2.
The Punisher Season 2 will see Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle fully embrace the persona of the Punisher as he faces off against John Pilgrim portrayed by Josh Stewart and his old friend Billy Russo aka Jigsaw who is played by Ben Barnes. Interestingly enough, while Russo’s character is clearly modeled after Jigsaw, the name Jigsaw will never be mentioned in Season 2.
Punisher showrunner Steve Lightfoot revealed to Collider the theme of Season 2, “If you ask, ‘What is the theme of Season 2? It’s about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher.”
However, Frank won’t be putting on his iconic Punisher vest right away. Bernthal explains, “This year, when he puts it on, we figured out a very intelligent, very tactical reason, a very psychologically tactical reason to wear it. It makes a lot of sense.”
It’s more than likely one of the reasons Frank will put the vest back on is due to Josh Pilgrim. Stewart described Pilgrim as a “Christian Fundamentalist who had a rage, a violent side of him.” He added, “It’s buried deep. I think where this is all headed, that sort of side of him is going to resurface a bit.” Costume designer Lorraine Calvert described Pilgrim’s character as “Alt-Right.”
