Newly sworn in New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to quote Watchmen’s Rorshach in response to a number of her critics.

Cortez’s Tweet is in response to a Politico article that details members of Ocasio’s House Democratic Caucus who are increasingly growing irritated with her.

Fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ [easyazon_link identifier=”B00BUSN8LE” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Watchmen[/easyazon_link] comics know that this Rorshach quote comes from a report written by Dr. Malcolm Long following a physical altercation with Rorshach and a number of the inmates.

While waiting in line to get food, one of the prisoners attempts to shank Rorschach. It doesn’t go too well for him, as Rorschach throws a burning bucket of oil and food into his face.

Cortez’s Watchmen reference received a number of reactions from comic book professionals including Tom King, Peter David, and Mitch Gerads.

The Watchmen have returned to the spotlight recently. Following a feature film directed by Zack Snyder, HBO is currently working on a television series. In the comics, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are incorporating the characters into the larger DC Universe in [easyazon_link identifier=”B076F1K196″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Doomsday Clock[/easyazon_link].

What do you make of Cortez’s Watchmen quote? Do you think it’s cool that a Congresswoman is quoting Watchmen?
