Olivia Munn Will Not Reprise Her Role As Psylocke in the Upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix Film!

X-Men Actress Olivia Munn confirmed that she will not be returning to her role as Psylocke in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film.

Munn spoke with Entertainment Tonight Canada’s Keshia Chante saying, “I can’t say anything because last time I said a little bit they sent me a note. But I’m not in it.” Munn explained why she wasn’t in the film, “I was filming ‘[easyazon_link identifier=”B07H7WXH79″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Predator[/easyazon_link]’ at the time so there wasn’t time for me to film it and so I’m not in it. I will tell you guys.”

The actress also confirmed the report via Twitter. Simply stating “True“:

In a follow-up Tweet, the actress noted it was “silly to keep evading the question.”

Many fans were understandably upset with the news. Munn was the first actress to bring Psylocke to life on the big screen. A few fans are holding out hope that she will reprise her role in a possible X-Force film. Others hope she will reprise the role when Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige takes control of the X-Men.

It’s unclear what Marvel Studios will do with the X-Men following Fox’s Dark Phoenix film. X-Men Producer Lauren Shuler Donner appeared on a panel at the Television Critics Association for FX’s Legion and declared the X-Men are in Feige’s hands.

“Kevin (Feige) and I started the first movie, he worked for me, he has a great story sense when it comes to weaving each world together, I trust him and I trust where he will take it.”

She would add later in regards to a potential X-Force film:

“Same as everything. This is all now in Disney’s playground and they get to decide. At least we know it’s in good hands. Everybody’s worked really hard up to now on the Fox side but now it’s going to be Disney’s call.”

As for the possibility of Deadpool spin-off with X-Force, Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated Marvel could launch an R-Rated brand.

“It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.”

As for Dark Phoenix, Munn not being in the film might be a blessing for her and the Psylocke character. The film has been pushed back numerous times. It was first originally set to be released last November. It was then pushed back to February, and it’s current release date is June 7, 2019.

That all happened after they released their first trailer in September!

One thing is clear, we know that Olivia Munn will not be returning as Psylocke in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Pheonix movie.

What do you think, did you enjoy her portrayal of the role? And would you like to see her return as the legendary mutant?
