Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 Petition Hits 1.1 Million Signatures

The petition to have HBO remake Season 8 of Game of Thrones has received over 1.1 million signatures.

The original petition created by Dylan D. simply reads:

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

This series deserves a final season that makes sense.

Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

However, in a recent update just before the Game of Thrones Season 8 finale, Dylan D. provided clarification and a further explanation of why he created the petition.

Dylan D. explains that he created the petition after Episode 4, “The Last of the Starks” indicating he was “so disappointed and angry.” He added, “It was simply me venting a bit.”

He would go on to explain that the petition isn’t really about demanding HBO to remake Season 8. He quotes Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight, “It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message.” He explains, “And I think this message is one of frustration and disappointment at its core.”

Dylan continues to expound even criticizing Star Wars as well:

“There is so much awful crap going on in the world, people like me need to escape into things like Star Wars and Game of Thrones. We fans invested a wealth of passion and time into this series. I’ve been watching religiously since Season 2, myself. I’ve read all the books and eagerly await the next two. I love this story, and I, like most of you, was crushed to see how the last season (and Season 7, let’s be real) has been handled.”

He then points out to exactly why he is so frustrated with this final season.

“The issue I have is not necessarily with what we got, it’s HOW we got there — A rushed, laughably inconsistent mess of a season fraught with cringe-inducing, arc-slaying dialogue and “everybody is stupid” syndrome.”

He continues:

“D&D adapted those books in the beginning and it became one of the greatest TV shows of all time. No one can doubt their talents there. But they seemingly became tired of the series and rushed to the end, thereby doing the show and its fans a great disservice.”

Dylan goes on to indicate that he feels for the actors and actresses indicating that some might be satisfied with their character arcs, others who are looking to move on with their lives, and those who might be just as disappointed and frustrated as the fans. In fact, Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke indicated they weren’t too happy with this final Season.

Dylan also lauds the talent of the technical teams behind the show including the “casting department, and cinematography, and music, and costuming, and the CGI team, and all those technical fields that went into keeping the show such a beautiful spectacle through to the end.”

He would conclude his update with once again declaring why he made the petition. He specifically refuted the idea that he made it because he was an “entitled, whiny fan.”

“In closing, I didn’t make this petition to be an entitled, whiny fan. I made it because I was immensely disappointed and needed to vent. Do I have a solution? I’ve got plenty of ideas, but no, I’m not a Hollywood writer. But you don’t need to be a mechanic to know your car is broken.”

Dylan and those who signed the petition had been mocked by Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Star Wars Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo. Hidalgo posted a screencap of the funds pledged to redo Johnson’s The Last Jedi on RemakeTheLastJedi.com.
