Vampirella was originally created by Forrest J Ackerman and Trina Robbins. She first appeared in Warren Publishing’s Vampirella #1 back in 1969.
Vampirella’s original origin saw her as part of a race known as Vampiri that originated from the planet Drakulon. However, when Harris Comics revived Vampirella in the Morning in America miniseries by Kurt Busiek, her origin was changed to be the daughter of Lilith, the first wife of Adam.
After being cast out of Eden, Lilith spawned demons, but would eventually repent and attempt to bear children into fight the demons she had spawned. Her first two children Madek and Magdalene would turn to evil and eventually brainwash Vampirella into believing she was from Drakulon.
Vampirella contains many of the powers of mythological powers. She has super-strength and super speed. She also has powerful senses that are allow her to determine one’s emotional state through the scent. She also has a very strong healing factor.
A new Vampirella comic book series by Christopher Priest and artist Ergun Gunduz will debut on July 17th.
