A new rumor indicates Idris Elba will play Bronze Tiger in James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad film.

The rumor comes from Mark Hughes at Forbes who states he’s heard Idris Elba “could be playing Bronze Tiger.”

Early reports and rumors indicated Elba would replace Will Smith as Deadshot. However, those were brushed aside when another report indicated Elba would not be replacing Will Smith as Floyd Lawton, but would instead be playing a new character.

In fact, when the rumors began swirling Elba wouldn’t be replacing Smith it was intimated he could be taking on a completely new character created for the film.

Since then rumors have been swirling about who Elba could be playing. While the most recent from Hughes indicates he could play Bronze Tiger, other rumors have indicated he could be playing Sportsmaster or even Deathstroke. Those rumors stemmed from the idea that Elba’s character would have a daughter similar to Smith’s Deadshot. Both Sportsmaster and Deathstroke have children in the comics.

As for what the team could look like, Gunn has hinted that he will be drawing from John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad run. He specifically showcased Luke McDonnell’s Suicide Squad #2 cover which also happens to be the cover for Suicide Squad Vol. 1: A Trial by Fire which was reprinted back in 2015.

The cover features Bronze Tiger, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag Jr., Enchantress, and Mindboggler. The team also included Nightshade, Nemesis, and Plastique although they are not shown on the cover.

Joel Kinnaman recently hinted he will be returning as Rick Flag. Jai Courtney has also confirmed he will reprise his role in the new Suicide Squad film. Deadshot appears to be out of the picture at this moment as Will Smith will not be reprising his role due to a scheduling conflict.

If we are simply going by the cover that would leave Bronze Tiger and Mindboggler. Mindboggler is a female so the only choice left would be Bronze Tiger.

If Elba does play Bronze Tiger, he will not only join Kinnaman and Courtney, but Margot Robbie, who will reprise her role as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis, who returns as Amanda Waller.

They will be joined by newcomers Daniela Melchior as a gender-swapped version of Ratcatcher and David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man.

There are also rumors of King Shark and Peacemaker being part of the line-up. One of those rumors suggests John Cena could be in line to take on Peacemaker. Early rumors had suggested Michael Rooker could be playing King Shark, but the actor denied those rumors.

There was also a rumor that Killer Frost might show up, but those rumors seem to have died down with quite a bit of the old cast returning and the big focus on Peacemaker and King Shark.

As for who the Suicide Squad will be up against, Hughes indicates it will be a character called The General. He believes that Benicio del Toro is in talks for the role.

Would you want to see Idris Elba as Bronze Tiger? What do you make of Benicio del Toro playing the villain? Do you think we might see some double-cross action with some members of the Squad betraying Waller and Task Force X?
