Joel Kinnaman Seemingly Confirms Return to Suicide Squad With Epic Shooting Range Instagram Post
You can add Joel Kinnaman to the list of actors returning for James Gunn’s Suicide Squad film. Kinnaman confirmed his return or at the very least heavily hinted at his return in an Instagram post He is expected to reprise his role as Rick Flag.
Along with Kinnaman, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis are also expected to return.
Kinnaman’s latest Instagram post seemingly confirms his return to the role. Pictured at a gun range with two others, Kinnaman writes he is “easing into” squad prep:
“At the range with my great friend and teacher Kevin Vance and Lele the Italian Stallion. Easing into that squad preppppp.”

Kinnaman’s “squad” reference strongly suggests he is on board for the reboot. Driving it home is his spelling of the word prep with five p’s, showing excitement.
What is most outstanding is who he is with. Kinnaman’s “friend and teacher” Kevin Vance is an actor and military veteran who was the senior military advisor for (guess what film) David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. And Vance’s connection to that movie is all over his Instagram.
So it really appears Kinnaman is getting back in the game as we’ve heard and as Discussing Film claimed he was back in April, with a crew he trusts, no less.
All signs point to that being a fact. Kinnaman talked about what he wanted to see in a sequel with a sense of certainty over a year ago when Gavin O’Connor was attached to direct. But Warner Bros. has yet to officially confirm Kinnaman is rejoining the cast. Hopefully, they will soon.
Directed by James Gunn and reputedly based on the comics by John Ostrander, The Suicide Squad is out August 2021.
