Jai Courtney is officially back as Captain Boomerang even if The Suicide Squad is intended as a full reboot and, according to the actor, he’s not sworn to any secrecy so he is ready to speak freely about the upcoming production, to a point.

As far as being back, Courtney said the following to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Yeah, I am. I said it the other day in an interview and I felt like I let the cat out of the bag. I haven’t been sworn to secrecy about it so I guess it’s OK to say that I will be.”

That reference to a prior interview is likely in relation to Courtney’s talk with Business Insider at the end of March where he first revealed he’d be throwing the boomerang around again. He said:

“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”

Noting his excitement to THR now that he’s “getting back with the gang” to mix it up — a gang including countrywoman Margot Robbie and possibly a few others from David Ayer’s movie — Courtney talked about how he relished being Captain Boomerang:

“I loved playing Captain Boomerang. It’s just like a rocker’s nightmare. Just looking forward to reprising that and getting the gold tooth back in and getting after it.”

He was tight-lipped about one thing: working with James Gunn. His and Gunn’s conversations, Courtney divulged, have thus far been about “breaking the ice” and not much else.

Out August 6, 2021, Courtney’s Captain Boomerang will be joined by Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Idris Elba in an unknown role, and John Cena who is mooted as of late for Peacemaker.

Jai Courtney’s work out now includes Storm Boy — a remake in a limited release of an Australian movie directed by French Aussie filmmaker Henri Safran (no reported relation to DC producer Peter Safran, though Peter is the right age and was born in England, where Henri also worked) — and a blink-and-you-might-miss-it cameo in Alita: Battle Angel.
