Rumor: Katherine Langford on Warner Bros. Short List for Batgirl
A new rumor suggests that 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford is on the Warner Bros. shortlist to play Batgirl in the upcoming feature film.
The rumor comes from We Got This Covered who indicate that Langford is on a list that Warner Bros. has drawn up for potential Batgirl actresses.
There hasn’t been much movement on Warner Bros. Batgirl movie front. The film was initially supposed to come from director Joss Whedon. However, he dropped out of the project in February of 2018 claiming “the story kind of just crumbled in my hands.”
Warner Bros. would tap Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson to write Batgirl. However, the writer has been sparse on updates. Last November, Hodson stated, “I’m really excited — because she’s Batgirl! She’s all the things I love about Batman.” She would provide another update in January, ““I’m in the middle of falling in love with her.” She would add, “And Batgirl…honestly it’s funny, there’s a little piece of me in every character I write. They start with me, and then they take on a life of their own.”
Langford recently debuted a photo of herself on Instagram with Barbara Gordon’s red hair color.
Langford is no stranger to comic book movies. She was cast in Avengers: Endgame and was expected to play Tony Stark’s daughter Morgan Stark in an afterlife scene that was cut from the film.
Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo detailed the deleted scene on the HappySadConfused podcast.
“There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station.”
He continued:
“The intention was that his future daughter–because these films are dealing with magic–forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”
He concluded on why they decided to cut it.
“What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. So, it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”
Langford will next be seen on Netflix’s Cursed. She will be playing Nimue and will team up with Arthur in order to find Merlin in new series based on the Arthurian legend.
Langford might be the most recent rumored to be in line for the part, but she might have some stiff competition from Lindsay Lohan, who was campaigning for the role back in January of 2018.
