Netflix Releases First Looks at Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri for The Witcher

Netflix released the first official look of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in his witcher garb for the upcoming The Witcher live action show. Along with the first look at Cavill as Geralt, they also released first looks at Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Cholatra as Yennefer. They topped it all off with the first official poster.

Netflix has teased Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia since they released a first look of him sans witcher garb back in October. Now, we finally get our real first look at him. Here’s a look at the first poster with its accompanying tagline: “The Worst Monsters Are The Ones We Create.

Netflix's The Witcher Poster

The poster showcases Cavill’s Geralt overlooking a rocky coastline. However, what stands out to me is the fact that Geralt only has one sword on his back. This is unusual to say the least given in CD Projekt Red’s video game adaptation Geralt carried two swords, a silver sword for taking on monsters and another for taking on men. However, in the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, Geralt only carries one sword.

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich already commented that there might be some fan rumbling due to their only being one sword.

She would also provide a better look at Cavill’s Geralt providing a number of adjectives to describe him as well as showing that he does not have a scar.

Here’s a few other looks at Cavill’s Geralt.

Netflix would also reveal a first look at Freya Allan as Ciri. The photo shows her standing in the woods covered in a hooded outfit. Ciri as many know, is the Princess of Cintra and the Lady of Time and Space.

Hissrich would also provide another look at Ciri.

The final promo photo gives us our first view of Anya Cholatra as Yennefer. Yennefer is a powerful sorceress and the true love of Geralt of Rivia. She also has an important tie in with Ciri as she, in the novels, views her as a daughter.

Anya Chalotra as Triss

Hissrich also provides another look at Yennefer as well as some adjectives.

The release date for Netflix’s The Witcher is expected to debut sometime between October and December of this year according to Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, who made the announcement during Netflix’s Q1 2019 Earnings Call.
