New Details Revealed for Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers at Gamescom – Gameplay Footage Revealed

More information about Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers has come out of Gamescom 2019.

According to IGN, they were presented a playable version of the tutorial that was shown earlier this year at E3 and San Diego Comic-Con. They gave us some much-needed details about the game and what we can expect as players. (Related: Captain America Appears to Die as Square Enix Showcases Marvel’s Avengers)

Not only did we get details about the game from IGN, but PlayStation released some gameplay footage as well.

Gameplay

Each hero has 3 attacks, a light melee, a heavy melee, and a special attack. Out of all the heroes so far, Thor looks to be the most fun to play, followed by Iron Man and Hulk.

Once the tutorial is finished, the player is thrust into an elaborate storyline. The Avengers not only have public opinion against them, but the denizens of AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics) show up to make their lives miserable.

The game is not completely open world, rather it is termed an “expansive” world that opens after the tutorial.

The Missions

The missions are single player or multiplayer. Single player missions are called Hero missions and encompass the bulk of the story. Multiplayer missions are called War Zone missions, and not much information is known about them yet. Both mission types will have a difficulty scale. Playing the game in one particular type of mission and then switching to the other will not affect the experience.Reward types may be affected, though.

Gear

Gearing is going to be pretty elaborate. Players will have a lot of choices, including branded gear like a Stark Industries set. The gear will have the usual rarity, common, uncommon, rare, and epic.

Gear will work hand in hand with hero skill trees, and also have perks on it. Players will be able to customize each hero to fit their preferred playstyle.

The game will not be trinity specific, so players will not have to worry about adhering to a class system.

As far as endgame or additional story, there aren’t many details. Square does promise an evolving story and more unique individual stories as additional heroes are added to the game.

It looks like we will just have to wait and see what May 15, 2020 brings.

From the information I read, the game looks to be similar to Mass Effect or Destiny. I really want to like this game, but I just don’t think it will have the fun factor that the late Marvel Heroes did.
