Star Trek Icon William Shatner Reacts to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Star Trek icon William Shatner reacted to the latest Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, directed by J.J. Abrams.

Shatner wrote on Twitter, “So I saw the new Star Wars movie. I need a wayfinder of my own to understand what I saw. #Lookingforadagger”

The actor would also poke fun at the latest Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian.

When one of his followers sarcastically told him if he loved The Rise of Skywalker, he should try the The Mandalorian.

Shatner responded with a Battlestar Galactica reference, “That’s easy: it’s a story of the adventures of a Cylon and his green kid.”

Shatner would go on to spoil the return of a fan favorite character from the original trilogy. He wrote, “Well, not the spoil, but SOMEONE’S back in the movie!”

Shatner is not alone in his reaction to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given the film an average rating of 6.21 out of 10. It has a 55% Tomatometer score with 216 Fresh reviews and 174 Rotten reviews.

It has a similar score on Metacritic with a 54 Metascore. There are 19 positive reviews, 37 mixed, and 4 negative.

Fan reaction appears mixed.

On Metacritic, the user score sits at 5.1 with 1,256 positive reviews, 395 mixed reviews, and 1,238 negative reviews.

The film has a B+ rating on CinemaScore.

However, on Rotten Tomatoes the film has a 77% Audience Score with an average rating of 3.96 from 99,202 reviews.

Although YouTuber The Quartering believes the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score is trying to protect Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He points out that the Audience Score does not shift at all even with increased reviews of the film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker brought in $177.3 million domestically in its opening weekend.

According to The-Numbers, the film grossed $375.1 million at the global box office.

This total gross is well below even the low end predictions from Box Office Pro, who predicted the film would earn between $185 million and $225 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office.

That could mean that moviegoers might have had a similar reaction to Shatner and decided to not go and see the film multiple times.
