Sony Moves Forward With Uncharted Project – Adds Antonio Banderas And Venom Director Ruben Fleischer

Sony will move forward with their Uncharted film adaptation starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

According to a report from Variety, the film added Antonio Banderas and Venom director Ruben Flesicher. They were also joined by Sophia Ali and The CW’s The 100 actor Tati Gabrielle.

No details on who Banderas, Ali, or Gabrielle could be playing were revealed.

The most recent draft of the script was written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Although Variety previously reported Rafe Judkins was working on the script with them back in November 2019. It’s unclear if Judkins is still attached to the project.

The film has gone through a number of different drafts. Back in 2019, Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker had written a draft of the film. And before that Joe Carnahan revealed he had written an Uncharted script back in 2017.

The film has also gone through a number of directors. Before Fleischer, Travis Knight was reported to direct Holland’s version of Nathan Drake. Dan Trachtenberg was also attached to direct Holland before Knight. Other previously attached directors include Seth Gordon, David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and Shawn Levy.

When Holland was announced to play Nathan Fillion, graphic artist BossLogic mocked up an image showing the actor as the character.

The Uncharted franchise’s first installment was Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune that released in November 2007. Since then it’s seen three subsequent main installments with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

The games follow Nathan Drake and his companions as they venture across the world in search of historical treasures. Along the way, they encounter a various assortment of dangers from rival treasure hunters, multinational corporations, and more!

The film is expected to hit theaters on March 5, 2021.
