Box Office Pro predicts that Venom: Let There Be Carnage will have an opening domestic weekend between $45 and $65 million.

They go on to predict the film will earn between $100 and $140 million in its entire domestic box office run.

Those numbers are significantly below what the first film made in its opening weekend.

Venom, released in October 2018, earned $80.2 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. It went on to earn $213.5 million at the domestic box office.

If the low end prediction holds that’s a 43% decline from the first film for opening weekend. On the high end, it’s an 18.9% decline.

Looking at the overall domestic run, on the low end it would be a 53% decline. On the high end it would be a 34.4% decline.

YouTube Odin’s Movie Blog believes if these numbers hold, the movie will be a flop.

He explains, “If these numbers do hold. This would not be a very good number for the film. Because even though we don’t have an official production budget, we can assume that the film costs $150 million based on the fact that it is a typical big budget comic book related movie. And those films usually don’t cost any less than $150 million. So we are looking upwards of up to $200+ million.”

“And then you have to add into account the fact that when you take into account marketing and the fact that this movie has been delayed several times that also would indicate that the cost would actually go up more,” he added.

Box Office Pro’s long-range forecasts have been hit or miss. They were pretty accurate with Black Widow, where they predicted the film would earn $77 million in its opening weekend. Black Widow slightly outperformed the prediction by bringing in $80 million its opening weekend.

They also predicted Black Widow would earn between $155 and $225 million. The film has only earned $183.1 million so far. That’s below the midpoint of $190 million in their large range.
