Bandai Namco Reveals Astronomical Number Of Deaths ‘Elden Ring’ Players Suffered, Also Reveals Which Bosses Players Fought The Most And More
Bandai Namco revealed that players of Elden Ring died to the game’s overwhelming enemies and deceptive traps over 9 billion times.
The official Bandai Namco website shared the “ELDEN RING Battle Scars Infographic” blog post, in celebration of the game’s one year anniversary. “It’s clear to see from the stats that ELDEN RING isn’t for the weak at heart — it’s a difficult and challenging game” Bandai Namco forewarned “– but for those who persevere and hone their craft, they understand that victory is the sweetest revenge! Wear your battle scars with pride, and long live the Elden Lords!”
The main statistic of note is that players have collectively died over 9 billion times. 69% was due to enemies and NPCs (that’s 6.21 billion), 15% to status effects, 14% falling to their own death, yet only 2% from other players (180 million).

Other highlights include the top 5 bosses the players have attempted to beat. The phrasing “boss attempts” doesn’t clarify whether this includes times players have managed to kill a boss, but the numbers would suggest so. Out of 5.9 billion boss battle initiations, Maelina, Blade of Miquella was challenged the most times.
As a challenging optional boss, it’s not a surprise players have taken her on 329 million times. Some of them can also be attributed to “Let Me Solo Her,” a player famous for fighting the boss on their own, flawlessly. Second and third are Margit The Fell Omen and the Limgrave Tree Sentinel, both potentially the first bosses players can face.
Players have also summoned other players over 1 billion times- 88% of the time to engage in jolly co-operation, and only 12% of the time accepting the challenge of an invasion.
The top five spells were also revealed, such as Rock Sling, Crystal Torrent, and Glintstone Pebble.
The top five most acquired incantations players had found were also shown, with the Blessing of the Erdtree, Bestial Sling, and Golden Vow being some of the most popular.
Having reached 20 million sales one year after launch, Elden Ring has shown that players still love a challenge, even if it borders on teeth-grinding rage. Despite journalists calling to make the game and other “Soulsborne” titles easier and more accessible (via disability accessibility options), director Hidetaka Miyazaki has defended FromSoftware’s design ethos on several occasions.
In one interview, Miyazaki explained “We are always looking to improve, but, in our games specifically, hardship is what gives meaning to the experience. So it’s not something we’re willing to abandon at the moment. It’s our identity.”
What do you make of these statistics specifically how many times players have died?
