‘House Of The Dragon’ Star Milly Alcock Cast As Supergirl In James Gunn’s DCU

The search for The Woman of Tomorrow is over after a lengthy process, and they found her in the House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock.
Per Deadline, she was selected over Meg Donnelly and Emilia Jones after it came down to just Alcock and Donnelly who had experience voicing Supergirl in Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.
Alcock and Donnelly were the final two by default as intel from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast claimed Jones refused to read for the DCU role over undisclosed reasons. Jones gained attention for her performance in the Academy Award winner, CODA.
James Gunn, who is steering the ship of the DCU as a studio executive along with Peter Safran, confirmed the casting on Instagram. “This is accurate,” he began.
“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” he continued. “Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl.”
He added, “She embodies Kara as envisioned by [Tom King], [artist Bilquis Evely], and [Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow screenwriter] Ana Nogueira.” The film is based on King’s 2022 run of the same name.
Deadline also reported that Alcock will appear as Kara Zor-El in another film before starring in her solo outing. Superman: Legacy is the likely candidate since it’s about to start filming in Georgia, “but that’s not 100%” verified.

Milly Alcock takes over playing The Girl of Steel in cinema from Sasha Calle and Helen Slater – who both appeared (kind of) in last year’s flop The Flash, which effectively ended the struggling DCEU.
Gunn announced Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as part of his and Safran’s “Gods and Monsters” slate at a press day in January of ‘23.
“In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” he teased at the time. “She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
