The Batman – Part II is the next film on the DC Studios slate after Superman: Legacy (which was recently truncated to just Superman). Both are scheduled for 2025 but while the latter is in production, we know very little about the progress of Matt Reeves’ next installment in his DC Microverse.

The cast might be as in the dark as we are based on something Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner Gordon, revealed to Variety.

“I have not read the script. I have not received the script. I’m waiting patiently. But I’ll tell you what? As soon as I get it, I’ll call you. I’ll send a copy right over to you. On the off chance that Matt Reeves hears this, the hairs on the back of his neck are going to stand up,” he said.

That doesn’t mean the script isn’t finished, just that it’s under lock and key, which Wright says is the case with the burgeoning film series.

“Man, that thing is on lockdown. I think I had a paper version of the script for the first one, but they wanted to hold on to it after we were finished [shooting]. We would get these ‘Mission Impossible’ self-destructing files sent to us. It’s hardcore. It’s like five-step authentication,” Wright explained.

The Batman – Part II’s status hasn’t changed at all away from this position over the last month or so according to the actor. “You’ve seen as much of a script as I have at this point. I don’t want to jump ahead. I just want to go forward with it,” he revealed previously this year via ComicBookMovie.

“Clearly, I’m Lieutenant Gordon at the end of the film, the first film, so we may be moving up in the ranks, I suppose, but I haven’t seen anything yet. I’m being patient, letting [director] Matt Reeves do his thing – which is going to be magical and wonderful – and looking forward to diving back into it when the time comes,” he continued.

We can’t say for certain if Reeves is behind schedule, but by this point in 2019 – three years before The Batman released – he already submitted several drafts (or rewrites depending on whom you ask) of his screenplay to Warner Bros.

The sequel is only a year and a half removed from its release window and a starting shoot date hasn’t been set. Maybe things will get moving more quickly as the premiere of The Penguin nears closer on Max. The Batman – Part II is meant for a theatrical release in October next year.
