Big West Announces Macross Franchise To Land Exclusively On Disney Plus, Hulu

Mecha fans rejoice! Following the conclusion of Big West, Studio Nue and Tatsunoko Productions’ brutal, two-decade long court battle against Harmony Gold, Macross has finally been liberated for a long-awaited worldwide release!

On March 18th, the anime’s official website unveiled the long-awaited news that (as translated via Deep L), that the majority of the Macross franchise will be available on worldwide Disney Plus anime streaming service Star – except for U.S., where it’s expected to instead land on another of Disney’s streaming hubs, Hulu.
While all eighteen Macross series will be available in Japan, only sixteen will be accessible worldwide
Despite the 2021 agreement permitting the immediate distribution of the original franchise entries and the creation of new ones, 1982’s Super Dimension Fortress Macross and its accompanying movie The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? will remain exclusive to Japan.

By the end of 2024, the following sixteen Macross titles will be available worldwide on Disney Plus:
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012: A music video in which director Masaharu Kawamori himself re-edited famous scenes from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross and its movie adaptation The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? to Lin Minmei’s song Do You Remember Love.
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers, Again: Set 80 years after the events of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the six episode anime follows Scramble News Network reporter Hibiki Kanzaki. While covering the U.N. Spacy’s first clash against the Marduck, Hibiki discovers Ishtar, an Emulator whose singing can enhance the Marduck’s power. Following his discovery, Hibiki brings Ishtar to earth to teach her the planet’s culture.
Macross Plus and Macross Plus: Movie Edition: The first sequel to the original Macross, This four-episode anime OVA and movie adaptation follows military test pilots and former childhood friends Isamu Alva Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman as they attempt to help Shinsei Industries determine the successor vehicle to the classic VF-11 Thunderbolt.
Macross 7: The direct sequel to The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, this 49 episode anime chronicles the Macross 7-led 37th colonial fleet’s colonization mission into deep space – including its confrontation with two hostile alien enemy forces known as the Varauta Army and the Protodeviln.
Macross 7 the Movie: The Galaxy is Calling Me: This three episode OVA takes place roughly around Macross 7 episodes 38-40 and fills in the gaps regarding how Basara Nekki met Mylene Flare Jenius’ older sister Emilia Jenius.
Macross Dynamite 7: One year following the Macross 7 fleet’s victory over Geperuniti, this four episode OVA follows Basara Nekki as he shifts gear from fighting a war to embarking on a rescue mission to save Galactic Whales from space poachers.

Macross ~The False Songstress~ and Macross F the Movie ~The Wings of Farewell~: A decade following the brutal war against the Zentradi, the 25 episode anime and two part movie adaptation centers around mecha pilot trainee Alto Saotome, rising pop singer Ranka Lee, and pop idol Sheryl Nome and not only chronicles their time assisting humanity’s in their journey towards the center of the galaxy, but also their eventual confrontation with the biomechanical alien menace known as the Vajra.
