Premiering online during a special May 27th presentation held in promotion of the film’s release, Mobile Suit Gundam: Curucuz Doan’s Island opens with a heavy battle between a green Zeon Zaku II, as assumedly piloted by the eponymous Curucuz Doan, and a pair of Earth Federation RGM-79 GMs.
Presumably met by the Principality of Zeon deserter due to their trespassing on his sanctuary, the two mass-produced mobile suits are soon destroyed, their Gunperry transport ship being burned for good measure by the mysterious Zaku as it looks on in contemplation.
From there, the film transitions to introducing a number of familiar faces among the Earth Federation forces, beginning with Bright Noa (CV: Ken Narita, Sesshoumaru, InuYasha):
Continuing on, as Bright begins to provide a sitrep update to his team, with Mirai Yashima (CV: Satomi Arai, Beatrice, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World) and Sayla Mass (CV: Megumi Han, Gon Freecss, Hunter x Hunter):
Kai Shiden (CV: Toshio Furukawa, Piccolo, Dragon Ball series) and Hayato Kobayashi (CV: Hideki Nakanashi, Yunosuke Sakurai, Moshidora):

And finally Fraw Bow (CV: Misato Fukuen, Himiko Toga, My Hero Academia) and legendary Mobile Suit Gundam protagonist himself, Amuro Ray (CV: Toru Furuya, the character’s longtime franchise actor):
Informed about the destruction of the two RGM-79 GMs and their pilots, the trailer then concludes with the young Earth Federation forces being deployed to Cucuruz Doan’s Island as Bright Noa speaks on the upcoming operation with Mirai.
Set to be directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the mangaka behind the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga and its relevant spin-off Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin MSD: Cucuruz Doan’s Island, the upcoming film is set to adapt the story of the eponymous original Mobile Suit Gundam series episode, which since its initial airing has been intentionally memory-holed at the request of series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino.
“I asked that it be skipped,” Tomino explained during a Q&A held during the 2002 Anime Expo New York. “There’s a reason, but since the staff is still alive, I can’t talk about it.”

Originally produced and aired as the fifteenth episode of the original series, Cucuruz Doan tells the story of the eponymous Principality of Zeon fighter who, after being ordered by his superiors to kill a group of children recently orphaned by his own mistakes, deserted the group – but not before making off with a Zaku II he subsequently uses to protect the orphans.
By pure accident, Amuro eventually stumbles upon Doan and the kids hiding out on an island, only to be met with understandable suspicion and requests to surrender from the former soldier.
Refusing to comply, Amuro proceeds to focus his energies on returning to his allies and, fearing what a weapon of war could do in a civilian’s hands, destroying Doan’s Zaku – that is, until their location is discovered by a Principality of Zeon Luggun, who drops a Zaku of its own to take out the two men.
As a result, the two men are forced into combat, with Amuro eventually taking down the Zeon flag ship, and Doan, in an act of atonement, destroying the enemy Zaku.
In the aftermath, recognizing that his possession of his Zaku would only beget an endless cycle of grief and violence, Doan allows Amuro to toss his Mobile Suit into the ocean, ending his time as a soldier once and for all.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island is set to hit Japanese theaters on June 3rd.
